Inhibitory effects of piperlongumine on melanin production in a murine B16F10 cell line. Melanin amounts were determined separately as intracellular and extracellular production. Total melanin production was calculated as the sum of intra- and extracellular amounts of melanin. Tyrosinase activity was determined according to the method described in “Materials and methods”. α-MSH, α-melanocyte-stimulating hormone and PL, piperlongumine. Significant differences are expressed by the symbols *, **, ***, and **** for expressing p < 0.05, p < 0.01, p < 0.001, and p < 0.0001, respectively. Significant differences in the comparison to α-MSH-treated cells are expressed by the symbols # and #### as p < 0.05 and p < 0.0001, respectively
