Hypothetical model of the antioxidant signaling cascade for MLC-induced neuroprotection in HT-22 cells. MLC promotes the activation of PI3K/Akt pathway which phosphorylates Nrf-2 and then induces its translocation to the nuclear. In the nucleus, Nrf2 binding to ARE promotes HO-1 transcription. Eventually, the expressed HO-1 reduces ROS and protects neurons.
